Markets are the beating heart of Ibiza's local culture. Beyond the tourist-oriented hippie markets, the island hosts genuine farmers' markets, artisan fairs, and night markets that reveal the authentic island.
The Famous Markets
**Las Dalias (Saturday)** — The original hippie market in San Carlos. Over 200 stalls selling handmade jewellery, vintage clothing, artisan crafts, and organic food. Arrive before 11am to beat the crowds. The night market (Monday and Tuesday evenings in summer) is actually better — more relaxed, live music, and a festival atmosphere.
**Punta Arabí (Wednesday)** — Es Canar's massive market is more commercial than Las Dalias but offers incredible variety. Over 500 stalls. Budget 2-3 hours minimum.
Farmers' Markets
**Forada Market (Saturday morning)** — San Fernando's local farmers' market is where islanders actually shop. Organic produce, local cheeses, sobrassada, Ibizan herbs, and freshly baked flaó (traditional cheesecake). Prices are half what you'd pay at a supermarket.
**Santa Gertrudis Friday Market** — Small but perfectly curated. Local organic produce, artisan bread, honey from Ibizan bees, and handmade cosmetics.
**San Juan Sunday Market** — The north of the island's social gathering. Local produce meets live music and community. Genuinely local.
Artisan & Night Markets
**Ibiza Town's Mercat Vell** — The old market hall hosts rotating artisan pop-ups throughout summer. Local designers, ceramicists, and food producers.
**San Antonio Sunset Strip Market** — Wednesday evenings along the sunset strip. Handmade crafts with the sunset as backdrop.
Market Essentials
Bring cash — many stalls don't accept cards. Reusable bags are appreciated. Haggling is acceptable at hippie markets but not at farmers' markets. The best finds happen in the first hour of opening.
